AI-enabled operations layer
Quiet AI behind every IPAY payment.
How AI-assisted routing, rules, margin, monitoring and support help IPAY run a payment-on-arrival network across countries, carriers and PSPs — without scaling the manual operations team at the same speed.
AI assists at every hop — recommending routes, flagging margin risk, guiding releases, supporting users — without ever replacing the licensed payment, delivery or commercial decision.
Inside the layer
Five capabilities. One operations layer.
Each capability runs continuously across every country, carrier, PSP and merchant connected to IPAY. Below is what each one does in practice.
01 · Routing
AI-assisted payment routing
IPAY scores every available PSP, wallet and local payment method per country, merchant and order context — then recommends the route most likely to convert at the lowest blended cost.
- Live availability and success-rate signal per PSP / wallet / method
- Fallback path selection when a primary route degrades
- Country and currency aware (EU, Asia, cross-border)
- Cost-aware: weights PSP fee, FX and merchant target margin
Example: a Polish consumer paying for a Belgian merchant order at locker release — IPAY routes to BLIK first, falls back to Wero-iDEAL and then to a card route if needed, while keeping the merchant under its target take-rate.
02 · Shipping rules
AI-assisted shipping rules
Merchants define which countries, carriers, delivery methods and payment methods are eligible per product category. IPAY helps surface the rules that protect margin and reduce return risk.
- Country × carrier × delivery-method × payment-method matrix
- Margin-protective defaults per merchant segment
- Return-risk hints based on category and destination
- One-click activation of a recommended rule
Example: a fashion merchant gets a recommendation to disable Pay-On-Arrival for >€250 orders to ZIP-codes with historically high refusal rates.
03 · Margin intelligence
AI-assisted margin intelligence
Every IPAY-enabled order is checked against expected margin before release: delivery cost, IPAY fee, PSP cost, carrier payment-check fee, duties and a return-risk assumption.
- Pre-shipment margin guardrail
- Per-order, per-merchant, per-country visibility
- Highlights orders that erode margin before they ship
- Feeds back into shipping rules and routing
Example: a cross-border parcel where duties + carrier fee + PSP fee would compress margin below 4% is flagged for review — the merchant can choose to ship prepaid only or adjust the price.
04 · Control Room
AI-assisted Control Room
A real-time operations console for the IPAY team and admin users. Every PSP, wallet, method, fallback, carrier release and settlement state is monitored together, with anomaly detection on top.
- Live PSP / wallet / method status
- Settlement and reconciliation exception alerts
- Carrier release blocks and stuck-order surfacing
- Country / merchant heat-map of incidents
Example: when a regional PSP's success rate drops 12pp in 10 minutes, the Control Room flags the dip, suggests a fallback route, and notifies the on-call operator.
05 · Support & onboarding
AI support & onboarding
AI-assisted help guides merchants, carriers and consumers through payment links, delivery release, onboarding steps and operational questions — in their own language.
- Multilingual help (EN / NL / FR / DE / VI today, more on roadmap)
- Context-aware answers grounded in IPAY documentation
- Escalates to a human operator when needed
- Reduces onboarding time for new merchants and carriers
Example: a new merchant integrating in DE asks about webhook retries — the AI returns the relevant API section in German and links to the sandbox endpoint.
Principles
What AI does — and what it does not — at IPAY.
What AI does
- Recommend payment routing and shipping rules
- Score margin and return risk per order
- Detect anomalies and operational incidents
- Guide merchants, carriers and consumers in their own language
What AI does not
- Hold consumer funds — funds stay with licensed PSPs
- Extend credit or lend — IPAY is not a BNPL provider
- Authorise releases autonomously — carriers and merchants remain in control
- Replace human review on settlement, refunds or disputes
AI is used in a supporting role only. Final payment processing remains with licensed PSPs, release remains controlled by the carrier, and commercial decisions remain with the merchant. IPAY does not hold funds, does not lend and does not extend credit.
Built to scale
Built to scale with AI-enabled operations.
IPAY is built as infrastructure first, with AI-enabled operations underneath. AI supports shipping rules, margin calculation, support, onboarding, payment routing recommendations, exception detection and return-prevention workflows. This creates a scalable model where IPAY expands across countries, carriers, PSPs and wallets without adding manual operational complexity at the same speed.
